Bruce then took a career change, studying for a theology degree in Canberra, before ministering in the Anglican Church in a number of towns in the Central West of NSW. A strong call to return to veterinary practice, however, saw Bruce donning the overalls instead of the cassock once more, and he was soon back to calving cows at all hours.
A patient and supportive family has been there with Bruce through these times and seasons. Bruce's wife, Ros, is mother to their four lovely children, and she is a highly trained and experienced special education teacher. Bruce and his wife now call the Blue Mountains home. The family animals include an adopted big black dog Bella, and the surprise birthday present tabby cat called Katie. Bruce attends a week-long veterinary conference in New Zealand every year during late winter with his son, who is also a vet, which helps to keep his veterinary skills sharp.
