Dr Stephen Gibson

Steve graduated from Sydney University in 1995 and has a strong interest in emergency medicine. He previously worked as a mixed animal practitioner on the South Coast of NSW and after graduating, he spent the first five years working in the United Kingdom. He then settled in Sydney and spent three years at a small animal practice in Randwick. In 2002, Steve became an accredited IVAS practitioner (veterinary acupuncturist), then, from 2003 to 2005, Steve gained valuable business experience working as an industry veterinarian planning clinical trials, advising on veterinary issues, and speaking across Australia.

In 2008, Steve participated in a one-year distance education veterinary emergency course, and he completed a one-year digital radiography imaging course in 2012. Wentworth Falls Animal Hospital’s services expanded in 2015 when Steve completed an advance veterinary dental course and brought a new dental digital X-ray unit into the practice.

Steve continues to update his professional knowledge, along with the rest of the team. In his personal life, he’s happily settled in Wentworth Falls with his wife Fiona, their three children, a beautiful Labrador, Moshi, and cheeky cat, Chilli. He loves calling the Blue Mountains home.

Fiona graduated from Sydney University with honours in 1995 and then practised in the UK for over two years. After returning to Australia in 2000, Fiona worked in a busy Sydney vet hospital for four years.

An experienced small animal veterinary surgeon, Fiona is particularly passionate about canine medicine and is an accredited AQIS veterinarian. She completed a one-year distance education course on internal medicine in 2002 and continued her studies by attending a canine medical extravaganza course in Brisbane in May 2007. Fiona keeps her veterinary skills and knowledge fresh by completing various online courses. The major advantage of setting up a veterinary hospital in the Blue Mountains is that Fiona and Steve have been able to combine raising a family, enjoying the outdoor lifestyle, and sharing veterinary duties within the practice.

Andrew previously graduated from Sydney University in 1994, having grown up in Lapstone in the Lower Blue Mountains. After working in mainly small animal practices in the UK for six years (where he met his wife Nicky) he returned to the Blue Mountains in 2002, initially settling in Wentworth Falls. He’s now been living in Katoomba for the past five years. Andrew’s main interest is in internal medicine, especially endocrine disease, and also more recently ophthalmology, but he enjoys all aspects of his veterinary work.

In 2010, Andrew completed the year-long, CVE Dermatology distance education course, getting up-to-date with the most current techniques of managing complex skin cases. He also completed the one-year CVE distance education course in Ophthalmology with Robin Stanley from Animal Eye Care in Melbourne in 2013.In his spare time, Andrew likes to hit the tracks in the national park - on foot or more commonly, on his mountain bike. Nicky and Andrew have three children and share their household with Harry the cat, who followed them back from England, and two crazy dogs, Perro and Isla.

Nicky gained her veterinary nursing experience in the UK, where she worked for over 10 years and is in charge of all nursing matters at Wentworth Falls Animal Hospital.

Nicky has always loved and valued working with animals and alongside Andrew, and she often gets into a tangle trying to keep their crazy dogs Isla and Perro out of mischief.

Nicky and Andrew have three gorgeous young children, and in her spare time, Nicky enjoys cooking, running, and walking her doggies on the local bush tracks.
Dr Bruce Craig - BVSc
Dr Bruce Craig

Bruce joined the team at Wentworth Falls Animal Hospital in January 2011, after practising for several years in Wellington, NSW. Having graduated from Sydney University in 1976, Bruce has a wide range of experience and has worked in many locations. These include the pastoral zone of western NSW, covering grazing properties from the Victorian to Queensland borders, and a busy small animal practice in western Sydney. He also owned a general veterinary practice in Dubbo for 10 years.

Bruce then took a career change, studying for a theology degree in Canberra, before ministering in the Anglican Church in a number of towns in the Central West of NSW. A strong call to return to veterinary practice, however, saw Bruce donning the overalls instead of the cassock once more, and he was soon back to calving cows at all hours.

A patient and supportive family has been there with Bruce through these times and seasons. Bruce's wife, Ros, is mother to their four lovely children, and she is a highly trained and experienced special education teacher. Bruce and his wife now call the Blue Mountains home. The family animals include an adopted big black dog Bella, and the surprise birthday present tabby cat called Katie. Bruce attends a week-long veterinary conference in New Zealand every year during late winter with his son, who is also a vet, which helps to keep his veterinary skills sharp.
